Front of House / Cashier
Pinch Bakery & Plant Shop, 183 Sherman Ave N

We're hiring one part-time front of house person to join our team. You'd be working the floor and the till in a space that's a bakery, a small kitchen, a plant shop, and a retail shelf all at once.

The basics

• Part-time, 15 to 20 hours per week, over 3 to 4 days
• Start date in late September, with some flexibility
• Availability including mornings, evenings, and weekends. Weekend availability is a firm requirement for this role, so please only apply if you can commit to weekends. If a human rights related need makes weekend work difficult (for example around creed, family status, or disability), tell us and we'll work through it with you.
• $18.50 per hour
• 40 hours of paid vacation per year (prorated for the rest of 2026), 3 paid sick days, and in-shop discounts
  

What the work is
Front of house at Pinch means taking orders and payments, making drinks, plating and serving, restocking, keeping the space clean and welcoming, helping people find a plant or a gift, and opening or closing the shop. We're a small team, so everyone pitches in and no two shifts look quite the same.

The physical side, stated plainly
This is an on-your-feet job. Expect to stand and move for your whole shift, lift and carry up to about 25 lb, use the basement stairs with stock, and do a lot of bending, reaching, and repetitive hand work at a busy pace. We'd rather you know the real demands now. If you'd do this job well with an accommodation, that's a conversation we're glad to have, at hiring or any time after.

A few true things about working here
Our space is loud and full of life. We have a lot of young families, so kids will be here, and they'll be excited, messy, and loud. To us that's the point, not a problem. We're a partially queer-owned business with zero tolerance for racism, homophobia, sexism, or harassment of any kind, and we prioritize BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ applicants when experience is comparable. You don't need bakery, coffee, or plant experience, and no post-secondary training is required. We care most about whether you're kind, reliable, and good with people. Our team runs on Slack and a few simple Google tools, so basic comfort with a phone and everyday apps is part of the job.

Accessibility
Our building has a one-step barrier at the kitchen entrance. It's built into the original foundation and isn't something we're able to change, so we want to be upfront about it. Front of house also involves the basement stairs noted above. We share this so you can decide what works for you, not to rule anyone out. Accommodations are available to the point of undue hardship, and no diagnosis is required to ask.
