What am I actually asking for?
Two of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action are addressed to municipal governments, and both echo the covenant this land is held under.
Call to Action 47
Repudiate the Doctrine of Discovery and terra nullius, the colonial idea that this land was empty and free to take. Canada's Supreme Court has already ruled that terra nullius never applied here.
Call to Action 43
Adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as the City's framework for reconciliation. In practice, that's the difference between notifying Indigenous nations about decisions and making them together.
